A Message from Kate...

Happy mid-year everyone!

Though quite how it’s got to halfway through 2014, I’m not at all sure. I’ve barely got used to writing 2014 on letters, cheques etc, and now the longest day has turned the year round . . .Scary!

Well, I have to admit that I have been very busy. There always seems to be more on my ‘to do’ list than there is time to complete it – even though I’m constantly crossing things off. But it’s all been fun and interesting and I love being busy.

For a start there was the writing of a new book to keep me occupied. I’ve concentrated on that to keep my focus on the story on my sexy Italian wine merchant hero Dario and his lovely heroine Alyse as they work to turn their marriage of convenience in a real love story.

Then of course there was the publication of my brand new novel A Question of Honour (Honor!) which was published at the beginning of June. I’ve been getting lots of emails from readers who have loved this story of the honourable Sheikh Karim Al Khalifa and his runaway princess Clementina. It’s also had some great reviews. Like this one from Nas Dean on Romance Book Haven

A QUESTION OF HONOR is a spellbinding romance. It is a story that will stay with a reader long time after she closes the book. It has that momentous impact by all the emotion depicted in this romance. Another shimmering and mesmerizing romance full of breathtaking sensuality from author Kate Walker.

Or this one from Larissa at We Read Romance:

Forbidden love stories are a favorite of mine. Especially those stories—the ones that have couples who aren’t supposed to be together but defy the expectations or restrictions put on them—that leave you with hope that love does defy all odds and is to be placed above familial duties and all other complications. Though, ultimately, it was Ms. Walker’s skill as an author that had me in awe yet again. She gave Karim’s character a true hero’s demeanor. She filled his backstory so that it only added to the heart wrenching way he denied himself the pleasure of the woman he desperately needed. And she gave him a heroine worthy of him. One who is strong enough to defy those familial expectations with him. This is a must-read. But be prepared! You surely won’t want to put it down once you start!

And then there was the excitement for me of revising and republishing my award-winning how to write guide – Kate Walker’s 12 Point Guide To Writing Romance. Of course this has been on sale for some years now and I’ve lost count of the number of people who have written to me to say how much it has helped them on the road towards publication as a romance novelist. But the previous editions had really unsatisfactory distribution and the paperback edition was way too expensive for many people. So I’ve revised and updated the book – and relaunched a new ebook edition on Kindle. This is now available on Amazon – for only $3.99 ( £2.45 ) on Amazon. It also has a fabulous new cover design - take a look at my For Writers page to see it. I’m really hoping that a lot more people will be helped by this book as they set out on their road towards publication.

And talking about learning more about writing romantic fiction, if you live in the UK, I’ve been asked to run more courses through the coming year. So far, every course that has been planned has been fully booked and the ones coming up are already getting close to full. I’ve put on extra dates and courses as much as I can but I don’t have more time to spare for more reaching – I have another book to write this year! But if you live in the UK or are visiting at any time when you could come on one of my courses, take a look at the Events page where you’ll see what’s coming up for the rest of this year, and the news courses in 2015. It seems amazing that they should already be booking up for then – but they are. So if you’d like to book a place I suggest you get your name down soon – particularly for the Advance Romance Writing Course in Fishguard in February.

And maybe I’ll see you at one of these courses later in the year.

In the meantime, I hope you are all enjoying life with the love of family friends to warm your days - and plenty of great books to relax you.

Happy Reading!
